Our Mission
Welcome to The Institute for Family Healing, a non-profit corporation based in Tempe, Arizona. Our mission is to empower individuals, couples, families and horses through transformative educational services and experiences that elevate their well-being and vitality.
What We Do
For over 35 years, our founder has explored the profound impact of trans-generational behavioral patterns on physical health, relationships, and careers. By working closely with children, parents, and families, we’ve developed a deep understanding of family dynamics that now extends to the health of pets. Recognizing that animals often serve as empathetic mirrors of their caregivers’ emotional states, we’ve expanded our services to heal both families and their beloved pets.
How We Do It
The “windows to your soul” don’t lie! With over 36 years of experience in reading eyes for personality, we collaborate with world-renowned equine iridologists to create comprehensive healing plans for horses. By reading the eyes of both the owner and their pet, we identify key patterns to focus our healing sessions—working together to heal both human and animal together. Through our unique approach, we combine equine iridology and behavioral iridology, integrating the personality, behaviors and life lessons, dovetailing the soul’s purpose of both owner and horse, together.
We believe in healing both the family and its pets together, recognizing the unique bond that exists between them. By addressing the emotional and physical needs of your animals in tandem with your own, we create a space where true transformation can occur—bringing vitality back to your pets and allowing your light to shine brighter than ever. When we heal together, the results are truly magical!

History – Application of Iridology
Iridology was used by the ancient Egyptians, classical Greeks, and throughout Europe since the 9th century. Iris mapping was advanced in the late 1800’s by the studies of Dr. Ignatz von Peczely. In the 1st World War Dr. Stephenson, a veterinary surgeon, and his young assistant Syd Mercer worked together in the remount section, and they took particularly note of the markings in eyes of the injured, diseased and dying horses. Later in life, Syd Mercer became known as the “Magic Man” in the horse racing world, as he reputably helped several racehorses win major listed races. Syd Mercer would carefully study a horse’s eyes before prescribing remedies for it, many of them being herbal, and he became in all likelihood the first recognized equine iridologist.
There is an intricate link between the eye and the brain via the nervous system, and iris nerve cells record vibratory changes in the rest of the body and respond to tissue changes. Iris markings include dark marks, white marks, stress lines (which look like deep cuts), lactic acid lines (which look like brush markings) and radii solari, which are raised ridges on the iris.

Healing Together
Just as children often inherit and reflect the emotional patterns of their parents, animals—especially horses—mirror the physical and emotional states of their owners. Horses, known for their sensitivity, can absorb and reflect the unresolved stress and generational pains of their caregivers, just as first-born children often do within families. Understanding the owner’s family and medical history can bring about deep healing for both horse and human.
We have found remarkable parallels between human family dynamics and the emotional connections shared with animals. For example, the eyes of an owner can express the same emotional depths as those found in their equine companions. The more committed an owner is to their healing journey, the more responsive their horse becomes. In cases of severe or chronic conditions, we recommend Level II therapy to achieve the best possible outcomes for both horse and owner.
Giving Back
Horses have contributed to human healing for centuries, with equine therapy dating back to 460 BC. Now it’s our turn to give back. We are at the forefront of integrating family behavioral patterns and trans-generational healing with equine care, offering these magnificent animals the love and healing they have long deserved!
